Board Positions

The Board Chair holds a critical leadership role in guiding the board and ensuring that the organization fulfills its mission and strategic objectives. They are responsible for presiding over board meetings, setting the agenda in collaboration with the executive director or CEO, and ensuring that meetings are effective, efficient, and productive. The Chair provides leadership and direction to the board, ensuring that members are engaged, informed, and working collaboratively. They also serve as the primary liaison between the board and the executive team, offering support and guidance to the organization’s leadership. Additionally, the Chair plays a key role in board development, helping to recruit new members, ensuring proper governance practices, and fostering a positive, inclusive board culture.

The Vice Board Chair supports the Board Chair in overseeing the board’s functions and responsibilities, stepping in to lead when the Chair is unavailable. They assist in the facilitation of board meetings and help ensure that the board’s activities align with the organization’s mission and goals. The Vice Chair often takes on special projects or initiatives, providing leadership and support to board committees and helping to maintain effective communication between the board, executive team, and stakeholders. Additionally, the Vice Chair plays an important role in board development, succession planning, and fostering a strong, cohesive board culture, preparing to step into the role of Board Chair if needed.

The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial health and stability of the organization. This includes ensuring accurate financial records are kept, monitoring cash flow, and reviewing financial reports to provide insights into the nonprofit’s financial position. The Treasurer works closely with the executive team to develop budgets, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and manage financial risk. They also help the board understand key financial metrics and ensure that proper financial controls are in place to safeguard the organization’s assets.

The Board Secretary plays a key role in ensuring the board's operations run smoothly and in compliance with legal requirements. They are responsible for maintaining accurate meeting minutes, organizing board meetings, and ensuring that agendas are prepared and distributed in advance. The Secretary also oversees adherence to the organization's bylaws and legal obligations, ensuring the board meets compliance standards. By maintaining official records and supporting new board member onboarding, the Secretary ensures transparency, organization, and alignment with the nonprofit's mission and goals.
